Your business should support your life - not depend on you for every moving part.

I’m Jo, founder of Harbour Studio. I help established service businesses untangle manual processes, choose the right technology and build practical systems, automations and AI workflows that make the business easier to run.

You’ve built a good business and your clients value what you do. But behind the scenes, too much still depends on you making each step happen.

Bookings happen through messages, payments and follow-ups need chasing, and key information lives in several places. The business works — but only because you keep holding the pieces together.

I know that pattern from running my own businesses. Harbour Studio exists to map what actually happens, simplify it and put practical technology around the work — without adding complexity for its own sake.

Start with the business problem. Then choose the technology.

We begin with the process costing you the most time. Then we decide what can be removed, simplified, connected or automated — and whether the answer is a better process, an existing tool used properly, a new system or something more bespoke.

Hi, I'm Jo — business owner, systems thinker and practical problem-solver.

I started my first business at 23: a dance school that grew to include two studios, a café and a performance space. Alongside teaching, I was learning how to manage the bookings, finances, schedules and everyday decisions that kept it running.

When an injury meant I had to step back from teaching, I needed the business to work without my constant presence. Documenting processes and creating clear routines became essential. I later took those lessons into running a guest house, and into finance and operations work with a charity and a technology business.

Today, alongside Harbour Studio, I’m Head of Operations at Apptrix, working across finance, administration and social media. That mix of experience shapes how I work: understand what needs to happen, simplify the process, then choose technology that supports it.

What we can put in place together

We can start with one immediate headache and build from there. That might mean creating a smoother route from enquiry to booking and onboarding, a dependable business hub for tasks, files and processes, clearer payment and admin routines, practical automation and AI, or documented workflows someone else can follow.

Progress you can see and measure

We agree what improvement would look like before making changes. That might mean reducing the minutes spent onboarding each client, cutting the number of manual follow-ups, or completing your weekly admin within the time you’ve set aside.

Then we compare before and after. A useful system should save more effort than it takes to maintain and help you feel more confident about how your business runs.

A little about life

outside work

I live in Edinburgh with my husband, our daughter and two Bengal cats.

Dance, movement and time with the people I love matter to me. So does having enough space to enjoy them. That’s the thinking behind Harbour Studio: useful systems that support a full life.
